Head to Head · 2026
Full disclosure twice over: this site earns a commission on MetaStock trials, and TradingView is still the right choice for a lot of traders. Here is the real dividing line.
The dividing line
The cleanest way to choose: TradingView is built around looking at markets; MetaStock is built around testing rules about markets. TradingView's charts are beautiful, browser-based, social and everywhere; MetaStock's System Tester, Explorer scanning and Forecaster are deeper than anything TradingView offers, wrapped in a Windows interface nobody calls beautiful.
TradingView runs from free to roughly US$60/month at the top tier. MetaStock D/C with data lands near US$87/month, and the full real-time setup with XENITH around US$265/month (full pricing breakdown). MetaStock is the more expensive habit, which is exactly why its case rests on the testing depth: tools that prevent one bad, untested strategy pay for years of subscription.
Pick TradingView if you are discretionary, chart-led, on a Mac or phone half the time, or cost-sensitive. It is genuinely excellent at what it does.
Pick MetaStock if your trading runs on rules, or you want it to: if "does this setup actually work?" is a question you intend to answer with data rather than conviction, MetaStock is the purpose-built instrument (what it does, tool by tool).
And the tie-breaker costs nothing: TradingView's free tier and MetaStock's free 30 days can run side by side for a month. Trade your process on both and the decision usually makes itself.
A month of MetaStock beside your current platform answers this better than any article.
